When I was 12 years old, my mother sat me down with cassettes and a thick French book. I began listening to French dialogues for several hours every day. My curiosity in learning a third language grew as I realized I had a decent ear for French pronunciation. It began to sound like music to my ears. I had to stay in Colombia for 8 months and attend a bilingual (English/Spanish) school in the town of Santa Marta. I had a tutor for Spanish so that I would not fall behind the other students since I was used to my classes being taught in English only back in the US. To my mother’s pleasant surprise, I became the top of the class because my Spanish test scores were the highest. I knew then the importance of having a private tutor to help me along with my education in Colombia. Once I moved back to the US and graduated from college, my career shifted into financial services and my language skills were a commodity. I worked in the top investment banking firms in the US and in Europe. Nevertheless, my passion for tutoring made me decide to shift all my energy into helping others with their own language learning objectives.
